Applying Overcoat to steel gutters

Any dirt, soil or other contaminants must be removed from the roof’s surface before installing the Overcoat Liquid Roofing System. After the initial cleaning, the surface should be power washed and rinsed to remove all residual dirt and contaminates after which the surface should be dried. Surfaces that have been the subject of moss and lichen must now be treated with a proprietary fungicidal wash and allowed to dry following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Overcoat can extend up and over brick/concrete parapet walls if required. Any cracks in these surfaces are to be cleaned out and filled with cementitious mortar following the manufacturer’s recommendations and allowed to dry before coating with primer following the application data sheet.

Apply Sharkseal multi-surface sealing adhesive to all seams, joints and splits in the surface and allow to cure following the product application guide.

This surface requires the use of the Overcoat high-performance rust primer. Once the surface is dry apply the primer at a coverage rate of 4.3 metres square per litre.

Once the primer has been applied, allow between 1.5 and 2.5 hours for the layer to cure before applying the Overcoat system.

Once the primer has cured you apply the Overcoat system with a standard roller or brush at a rate of approximately 1.2 kg per square metre. The Overcoat layer will become instantly watertight and can immediately withstand rainfall. After 24 hours the surface can take foot traffic and a full cure of the system will take around 7 days.
